D♯ / E♭
Pitch class D♯ / E♭ — three semitones above C; a change of pitch along the chromatic passage.
D♯ / E♭ is pitch class 3 — three semitones above C. D♯ is C raised by a minor third; E♭ is E lowered by a semitone. Same pitch class, two spellings, chosen by the surrounding key or chord.
Chromatically it sits between D and E. It is a black-key class on the keyboard picture, a raised D or a lowered E depending on how the line is written.
In major-triad grammar this class is the root of E♭ major (E♭–G–B♭), the major third of B major (B–D♯–F♯), and the perfect fifth of A♭ major (A♭–C–E♭). Alone it stays a pitch class. Schubart-style key text appears only when a full major triad meets in the vessel.
