E
Pitch class E — a major-third span from C; a clear figure of pitch that holds its place in the cycle.
E is pitch class 4 — a major third above C (four semitones), and a natural letter-name. On the keyboard it is the white key between D♯/E♭ and F; in solfège it is often Mi.
It closes the first third of the octave counted from C and opens the path toward the fourth. As a pitch class it is stable naming: every E, in any octave, is this same step of twelve.
In major-triad grammar E is the root of E major (E–G♯–B), the major third of C major (C–E–G), and the perfect fifth of A major (A–C♯–E). Alone it stays a pitch class. A vessel offering needs three notes of a recognized major chord.
