The named maguey / metl of Mesoamerican fiber, pulque, and thorn speech. Not aloe as the Lots gel leaf, and not cactus as a generic desert dump.

Nahua tradition

  • Agave appears in Nahua tradition.

Sahagún’s Florentine Codex Book 11 records metl/maguey among fiber, thorn, and pulque-adjacent plants — named agave as livelihood and ritual plant. A colonial-era Nahua ethnographic attestation, not a pan-Mesoamerican essence and not an unfiltered pre-invasion voice.
