Animal groom

Myth & story

The tale-type of a beast husband who must be trusted until form is restored. Not beauty-and-beast as a film slogan, and not every frog prince.

Northwest Coast tradition

  • Animal groom appears in Northwest Coast tradition.

Swanton’s Tlingit collection likewise records marriages to animal husbands among Tlingit narrative types — animal-groom speech in that book. A named Northwest Coast tale-type, not animal-bride as the same edge and not a European Beast Bridegroom dump alone.
