Culture hero

Myth & story

The tale-role of a bringer of fire, laws, or crops for a people. Not hero as a Greek cult word alone, and not theft-of-fire as one scene alone.

Northwest Coast tradition

  • Culture hero appears in Northwest Coast tradition.

Swanton’s Tlingit narratives cast Raven as a protagonist who steals daylight and rearranges the world for people — culture-hero speech in that collection. A named Northwest Coast culture-hero cycle, not raven as the being alone and not Prometheus’ theft-of-fire.
