The named moral fault of abandoning hope in the good or in God. Not grief as sorrowing mood alone, and not presumption as the opposite excess.

Islam

  • Despair appears in Islam.

    The Qur’an forbids despair of God’s mercy and names despair as the mark of disbelievers. Islamic anti-despair speech in that revelation, not hope as a mood dump and not a clinical invent.
