Hajj

Rituals

The named Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca required once in a lifetime when able. Not umrah as the lesser visit alone, and not pilgrimage as a generic journey-word.

Also known as Haj · Ḥajj

Islam

  • Hajj is used in Islam.

The Qur’an commands the ḥajj to the Sacred House for those who can make the way. Islamic pilgrimage-rite use in that revelation, not pilgrimage as the generic journey-word already walked and not ʿumra as the lesser visit alone.
