Objects · Colors & materials · Nature

A named sky-iron or sky-stone used as early iron and later as a omen-piece. Not a thunderstone, not keraunos, and not generic iron.

Roman religion

  • Meteorite appears in Roman religion.

Pliny’s Natural History seats sky-fallen iron and stones among mineral marvels of Roman encyclopedia speech. A named meteorite in that encyclopedia, not thunderstone as the folklore axe-stone seated here and not ordinary iron alone.

from Pliny the Elder · Natural History, c. 77 CE
