Mictlan

Places

The Nahua land of the dead with its layered road. Not Xibalba as the Kʼicheʼ court of trials, and not Christian hell.

Nahua tradition

  • Mictlan appears in Nahua tradition.

Sahagún’s Florentine Codex records Mictlan as the layered land of the dead — named underworld road and stations in afterlife ethnography. A colonial-era Nahua ethnographic attestation, not a pan-Mesoamerican essence and not an unfiltered pre-invasion voice.
