Mudra

Symbols

A ritual hand gesture sealed in icon and dance. Not hamsa the palm amulet, and not a full gesture encyclopedia.

Buddhist traditions

  • Mudra is used in Buddhist traditions.

Watson’s Lotus Sutra seats Buddhas and bodhisattvas in named hand-seals while teaching. A named Buddhist mudra as body-method of that sūtra’s speech, not bindu as a point-diagram and not a generic gesture dump.
