Nihon Shoki

Myth & story

The eighth-century Chronicles of Japan, a court chronicle beside the Kojiki. Not the Kojiki’s older kami narrative alone, and not every later shrine lore dump.

  • Nihon Shoki is historically related to Kojiki.

The Nihon Shoki is the eighth-century court chronicle compiled beside the Kojiki: twin early histories of kami and emperors that share episodes while remaining separate books. Historical sibling relation, not identity and not a later shrine-lore dump under one id.
