Samsara

Beliefs & concepts

Cyclic birth, death, and rebirth in Indic and Buddhist speech. Not time as abstract flow alone, and not cycle as a generic wheel word.

Buddhist traditions

  • Samsara appears in Buddhist traditions.

Watson’s Lotus Sūtra speaks of beings circling in saṃsāra and of release from that cycle. Buddhist saṃsāra in that sūtra, not moksha as Hindu release and not a generic cycle mood.
