Tawaf

Rituals

The named sevenfold circuit of the Kaaba in hajj and umrah. Not saee as the Safa–Marwah course, and not pilgrimage as the whole journey.

Also known as Ṭawāf · Circumambulation of the Kaaba

Islam

  • Tawaf is used in Islam.

The Qur’an commands circumambulation of the Ancient House as pilgrimage rite speech. Islamic ṭawāf use in that revelation, not kaaba as the house alone and not saʿy as the Safa–Marwa course.
