Tayammum

Dry purification with earth when water cannot be used in Islamic legal speech. Not ghusl as the water wash alone, and not lustration as comparative washing.

Islam

  • Tayammum is used in Islam.

    The Qur’an (4:43; 5:6) expressly permits clean earth as a wash when water is lacking — the scriptural seat of tayammum. Islamic dry-ablution use in that revelation, not wudu as the water wash already walked and not ghusl as the major wash alone.
