Reef
Reef is an emergent relationship within SHOE.BLUE: what becomes readable when Brine and Coral meet.
A Coral polyp is an animal that mines seawater for a skeleton, and often keeps algae in its cells. Brine is the liquor it mines: water that has taken up salt until it tastes of rock and sea. Without the ions there is no stone. Without the animal there is only liquor.
Reef is those two facts building a coast. Stone and Salt take the split; Growth is the living architecture; Water is the solvent that made the mineral possible. The pairing is not a postcard. It is an animal using the ocean’s chemistry as a building method, and a brine discovering it can become a wall.
The meeting
An animal using the ocean’s chemistry as a building method.
The Work is a way to sit with a relationship once it has become readable.
