Current + Plankton

Gyre is an emergent relationship within SHOE.BLUE: what becomes readable when Current and Plankton meet.

Plankton are lives that cannot choose a heading: algae, larvae, animals too small to swim against the stream. A Current is heading without a life of its own — water already going somewhere. Put them together and the ocean’s carbon is a wheel. The drifters make food. The flow decides where that food spends the week.

Gyre is not a third creature between them. It is the agreement that small bodies ride a directed going, and that a directed going is never empty of lives. Microbe and Water take the split; Wave is the traveling form. The pairing is how a way of living that cannot swim against the stream still feeds a planet, and how a stream is a habitat whether it meant to be or not.

The Work is a way to sit with a relationship once it has become readable.
