deity

Aphrodite

Beings

The named Greek goddess of love, beauty, and desire. Not Venus as the Roman planet-named twin under one id, and not eros as the personified desire-being alone.

Hellenic religion

  • Aphrodite appears in Hellenic religion.

Herodotus seats Aphrodite among Greek and Near Eastern cult speech, including Urania and foreign counterparts he reports without merging them into one goddess. A named aphrodite in that traveler’s speech, not Venus as a Roman flatten and not an unminted Astarte identity row.
