Cosmogony

Beliefs & concepts

An account of how the world came to be ordered. Not creation as bare beginning-word alone, and not theogony as birth-of-gods story (published).

Hellenic religion

  • Cosmogony appears in Hellenic religion.

Hesiod’s Theogony opens with Chaos and tells the birth of Gaia, Ouranos, and the ordered world of gods. A named Hellenic cosmogony in that poem, not theogony as the text-title already walked and not creatio ex nihilo.
