Norse tradition

  • Megingjord appears in Norse tradition.

Snorri’s Gylfaginning lists Megingjörð among Thor’s three special possessions, the belt that doubles his strength. A named belt of that prose, not Mjolnir restated and not a generic girdle.

  • Megingjord is sacred to Thor.

Snorri’s Gylfaginning names Megingjörð as the strength-belt Thor girds when he goes to fight. A named belt dedicated to that god’s might, not jarngreipr as the gloves alone and not a bare clothing dump.
