deity

Pan

Beings

The named Greek rustic god of flocks, wild hills, and sudden panic. Not satyr as a class of goat-footed companions, and not faun as the Latin woodland type.

Hellenic religion

  • Pan appears in Hellenic religion.

Herodotus seats Pan among Greek cult speech and Egyptian Mendes interpretatio without collapsing Pan into the Mendes goat in this attestation row. A named pan in that traveler’s speech, not a faun dump and not pan-goat as the separate historically_related_to claim.

Egyptian religion

  • Pan is historically related to Goat.

Herodotus’s Mendes logos ties the sacred goat of Mendes to Greek Pan — an interpretatio link between the Greek god and the Mendes animal cult, not a claim that Pan is a goat. A named historically_related_to meeting beside goat-egyptian-herodotus already walked as fauna attestation.
