Vedic tradition

  • Puruṣa appears in Vedic tradition.

    Ṛgveda 10.90 (the Puruṣasūkta) seats the cosmic Person whose dismemberment becomes worlds, beings, and social orders. A named Vedic puruṣa in that hymn, not later Sāṃkhya personhood alone and not ātman as a second unpublished id.
