World egg

Myth & story

The cosmogonic image of a world born from a cosmic egg. Not creation as every origin word, and not benben as a mound alone.

Vedic tradition

  • World egg appears in Vedic tradition.

The Rigveda’s Hiraṇyagarbha hymns speak the golden embryo from which the ordered world is set — world-egg cosmogony speech in that hymn corpus. A named Vedic golden-embryo figure, not Orphic egg doctrine and not Benben as an Egyptian mound alone.
