deity

Bastet

Beings

The named Egyptian feline goddess of home, protection, and joyful rite. Not cat as bare animal, and not Sekhmet as the lioness war form under one id.

Also known as Bast

Egyptian religion

  • Bastet appears in Egyptian religion.

The Book of the Dead’s funerary image-world seats Bastet among protective feline powers the dead may meet or invoke — cat-form presence in that corpus, not a Greco-Roman Bubastis tourist dump and not Sekhmet’s lioness heat alone.

  • Cat is sacred to Bastet.

The Book of the Dead’s protective feline image-world seats the cat as Bastet’s animal — sacred dedication in that corpus, not a generic cat appears_in egyptian alone and not a Sekhmet lion flatten.
