Necropolis

Places

A city of the dead — a large organized cemetery landscape. Not tomb as a single burial place, and not underworld as mythic below.

Egyptian religion

  • Necropolis appears in Egyptian religion.

The Book of the Dead orients the dead toward the western necropolis — cemetery cliffs and tomb city of the west. Named necropolis place speech in that corpus, not Thebes/Memphis city dumps already walked and not a tourist Giza flatten.
