deity

Poseidon

Beings

The named Greek god of sea, earthquake, and horses. Not Neptune as the Roman planet-named twin under one id, and not ocean as bare water.

Also known as Poseidôn

Hellenic religion

  • Poseidon appears in Hellenic religion.

Herodotus seats Poseidon among Greek naval, Isthmian, and earthquake-god speech in the traveler frame. A named poseidon in that speech, not Neptune as a Roman flatten and not a modern sea-god dump.

  • Isthmus is sacred to Poseidon.

Pausanias seats the Isthmus sanctuary and Isthmian rites as Poseidon’s. A place→god dedication in that periegesis, not every harbor Poseidon shrine and not the sea lemma alone.
